Dating can be thrilling, nerve-wracking, and just a little bit chaotic.
So before you head out the door, here are five things I, Deb Harrison, always recommend to help you walk in cool, calm and just the right amount of fabulous:
1. Hype Yourself in the Mirror
Yes, literally. Give yourself a wink, a “you’ve got this” nod, or channel Beyoncé. Confidence is half the charm — and it starts in your own reflection.
2. Eat a Snack
You heard me. Nothing too garlic-laden or messy — but don’t show up starving. You’ll end up judging their character based on how quickly the bread arrives.
3. Don’t Over-Google
Yes, you can check they’re not a wanted criminal. But don’t deep-dive their LinkedIn or memorise their dog’s name from Instagram. Let yourself discover them live, in person.
4. Choose an Outfit That Feels Like You
You don’t need to squeeze into anything uncomfortable. Wear something that makes you feel attractive and at ease. If you’d wear it to brunch with your most stylish friend, you’re good.
5. Have a Get-Out Plan (Just in Case)
Call it insurance. Whether it’s a friend on standby or an internal mental timer, having an exit strategy can take the pressure off and help you relax.
Most importantly? Remember: dating should feel like an adventure, not a test. You’re not trying to impress anyone — you’re seeing if there’s a spark. And if not? At least you’ve got a story.
Love,
Deb x
